Airlines have scheduled 21,955 flights throughout Spain during the December long weekend (December 5-8), according to data from Aena, which is an increase over the 21,258 operated last year. The busiest day will be this Friday, with 5,743 operations, followed by Monday (5,496), Sunday (5,444) and Saturday (5,272).
In the case of the Balearic Islands, the archipelago’s airports will handle 1,702 flights, 3.3% more than in the same period last year. Particularly noteworthy is the performance of Ibiza airport, which will operate 316 flights during the four public holidays, a figure practically identical to that of 2024, but with a notable change in the type of routes available.
Ibiza: more domestic flights and plummeting international traffic
Between today and Monday, Ibiza will have 292 domestic flights, 22 more than last year, which shows a greater connectivity with the Peninsula. However, the number of international operations falls sharply:
-
Only 22 international flights on the entire bridge,
-
with a maximum of six per day,
-
well below the 11 to 13 per day programmed in 2024.
This reduction confirms the pattern of recent winters: a significant reduction in operations with Europe during the low season and a reinforcement of domestic routes to sustain mobility between islands and with the mainland.
Barajas and El Prat, the airports with the most traffic
At the national level, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas will be the busiest airport during the long weekend, with 4,610 operations and a peak of more than 1,200 flights this Friday. It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat, with 3,659 flights, and Gran Canaria airport, which expects 4,759 operations.
Other airports of relevance during these days will be:
-
Malaga-Costa del Sol: 1,608 flights.
-
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández: 1,224 flights.
