The Ministry of Education and Universities of the Balearic Government has convened the Bureau of Private Education in order to negotiate the timing of the return of 2.9% of the cuts applied to teachers in the sector. The decision is framed in an addendum signed this Monday by the Conseller Antoni Vera and the secretary of Public Services Education of UGT, Azahar Tortonda, which extends the agreement signed last May.
As reported by UGT Baleares, the meeting of the table will be held this Tuesday, November 11, with the aim of establishing a timetable for the repayment of the amounts owed to teachers. The measure responds to the lawsuit filed by the Federation of Public Services of UGT against the agreement of the Consell de Govern of 2020, which endorsed the salary cuts of 2% in 2020 and 0.9% in 2021 to the teachers of the concerted.
The union recalls that the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) admitted the lawsuit, which claimed the full restitution of the amounts not received during the years of wage freeze. With the new addendum, the autonomic Executiu is committed to return the outstanding amounts and to extend the effects of the salary increases of the years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, incorporating them to the payrolls of the teachers.

“This is a collective victory,” stressed Tortonda, who emphasized that union pressure “has paid off” and that the Govern “recognizes the 2.9% debt and is committed to its repayment.”
The agreement, according to Government sources, represents a further step in the normalization of the remuneration of teachers in the concerted education sector, after years of union demands.
