The National Taxi Association (Antaxi) has decided to postpone the national mobilization scheduled for November 13, which sought to denounce the high cost of insurance policies in the sector. This decision is in response to the tragedy caused by the DANA in Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha, which has left thousands of people affected, including numerous cab drivers who have lost their livelihoods. In a statement, Antaxi expressed its “solidarity and commitment” to the communities hit by the disaster, and expressed its willingness to support civil society and institutions in these difficult times. The mobilization was aimed at demanding from insurers and administrations a solution that would allow cab drivers access to “affordable and fair” insurance to continue offering a quality and safe public service. According to Antaxi, the annual cost of some policies reaches 7,000 euros, an unaffordable figure for many professionals in the sector, which puts the continuity of their activity at risk. Despite the urgency of addressing the “abusive practices” of insurers, Antaxi has chosen to postpone the protest as a sign of respect and empathy for the victims of DANA.
They are still looking for solutions
The association reiterates its commitment to seek solutions together with insurers and administrations, but considers that the current moment demands to prioritize aid to those affected by this climatic tragedy. The new date for the mobilization will be announced later, and Antaxi assures that it will continue to defend the rights of cab drivers in the face of the growing difficulties in accessing fair and accessible policies.
