The Government has reached an agreement with the main trade unions to equalize the residence bonus for civil servants of the General State Administration in the Balearic Islands with that already received by their counterparts in the Canary Islands.
The measure, which will mean a monthly increase of up to 300 euros, will benefit public workers stationed in Ibiza and Formentera, as well as in the rest of the archipelago.
According to union sources informed Europa Press, the initiative is part of the proposal submitted Wednesday by the Ministry of Public Function to CCOO, UGT and CSIF, which also includes a 10% salary increase between 2025 and 2028 for all public employees.
Progressive increase in the insularity bonus
The equalization of the residence allowance with the Canary Islands is “guaranteed”, according to the trade union organizations, although the timetable for its application has yet to be defined.
The update will mean a notable jump in the amount of the bonus: in the case of Mallorca, civil servants will go from receiving between 47 and 110 euros per month to receiving a fixed amount of 206 euros, regardless of the group to which they belong.
In the case of the smaller islands, including Ibiza and Formentera, the change will be more significant: the current supplement, which ranges between 65 and 122 euros per month, will be raised to 410 euros.
The secretary general of UGT Public Services in the Balearic Islands, Miguel Angel Romero, is scheduled to appear at a press conference this Thursday to give more details of the agreement, as well as his assessment of its economic and social impact.
The increase in the residence allowance has been a historical demand of the unions in the islands, who consider that the cost of living and the difficulties of access to housing fully justify this equalization with the Canary Islands.
