The arrival of an Atlantic front will mark the beginning of the week with an unstable environment in the northwest peninsular, where cloudy or overcast skies and precipitation are expected, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). In the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will predominate cloudy intervals, mainly of medium and high clouds, with greater opening of clearings in the east and south.
Rains in Galicia, Asturias and Castilla y León
The rains will be concentrated mainly in Galicia, where they will be more abundant in the west, and may spread throughout the day to Asturias, the northwest of Castilla y León and, with less probability, to other areas of the Cantabrian, La Rioja, the north of Extremadura and the Central system.
In addition, morning mists and fog banks are expected in areas of northeastern depressions, Melilla, the Strait of Gibraltar and northwestern mountains. In Galicia, the passage of the front will leave frontal fog during the early hours of the day.
Yellow alert for swell in Galicia
The day will be marked by the yellow alert for waves on the Galician coast. In A Coruña, the warning will be active between 15.00 and 23.59 hours by combined sea from the west or northwest, with waves up to five meters high.
Clouds in the Balearic Islands and rising temperatures
In the Balearic archipelago, the day will be presented with intervals of medium and high clouds, but no rain forecast. The maximum temperatures will remain unchanged or rise slightly, while the minimum will experience little change, according to the Aemet.
In general, in most of the country a slight increase in minimum temperatures is expected, with frosts still present in the Pyrenees, where they may be locally moderate. In the Canary Islands, there will be intervals of low cloudiness in the north of the islands of greater relief, with possible weak precipitations, and little cloudy weather in the rest.
Westerly and southerly winds
The prevailing winds will be westerly and southerly on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with moderate gusts on the Mediterranean coasts and during the first half of the day in the Basque Country. In the north of Galicia and the west of Asturias strong wind intervals are also expected on the coasts, while in the rest of the country will blow light, with slightly more intensity in mountain areas of the north.
