The area of es Soto de Vila, under the walls of Ibiza, has been the scene of two fires in little more than a week, which has led the Local Police to take urgent measures to avoid new risks.
In this enclave, where some caves have been occupied as substandard housing, the situation has become unsustainable, raising alarm among neighbors and authorities.
Two fires highlight the problem
The first fire took place last week and was controlled without injuries, although it highlighted the precarious conditions in which the people occupying this area find themselves. Just a few days later, a second fire broke out again in the same spot, which led the Ibiza Local Police to intervene immediately to prevent the situation from worsening.
Faced with this escalation of incidents, the agents have cleared the area and have proceeded to a thorough cleanup to prevent further fires and preserve safety in the area.
Performance of the Local Police
From the police have expressed their concern and stressed the need to intervene to curb this problem. “In recent days, there have been two fires in just over a week in the area of es Soto, a situation that puts the safety of people and the environment at risk,” they said in a statement.
For this reason, they have proceeded to the eviction of the occupied caves and have intensified the cleaning tasks in the area. “Our goal is to prevent new incidents and ensure the conservation of this space. We thank the public for their cooperation and remind them of the importance of respecting natural spaces,” they added.
In addition, the Local Police has appealed to the public to report any incident in the area, in order to avoid new episodes of risk.
A problem with no solution in sight
This is not the first episode of this type in es Soto, an area where irregular settlements have been detected on several occasions. The combination of minimal habitability conditions and the accumulation of flammable materials have turned this space into a constant source of danger.
The Ibiza Town Hall has not yet announced additional measures, but it is expected that in the coming days the situation will be evaluated to prevent the problem from recurring. In the meantime, the Local Police maintains surveillance in the area and reinforces its message of prevention to avoid new incidents.
