The Councilor for Environmental Management of the Consell de Ibiza, Ignacio José Andrés, positively valued the approval of the decree by the Consell de Govern, a text that provides the necessary legal certainty to start sending waste from the island to the Tirme plant in Mallorca.
“We are very pleased that today in the Consell de Govern has approved the decree that was taken a few weeks ago in Parliament. We understand that we have an agreement that gives us the viability to be able to transport waste to the island of Mallorca, to the Tirme plant, so that it can be incinerated there,” said Andrés.
Closing the agreement with Majorca, the first immediate step
The conseller explained that they are already working in coordination with the Consell de Mallorca to finalize the agreement that will regulate the transfer of waste between the two islands.
“We are still in contact with the Consell de Mallorca to finish defining the agreement that we have to have the two councils, who are the ones who have the competences in waste, both us here in Eivissa and them there in Mallorca,” Andres recalled.
He is confident that this document will be defined “in a few weeks”.
Defining tonnage, costs and logistics: the crucial phase that starts now
Following the approval of the decree, the most immediate task is to finalize three key elements:

Tons of waste to be sent to Mallorca.

Transfer costs, including shipping, transportation companies and operational adjustments.

The associated logistics, which must be coordinated with the shipping companies and the island concessionaire.
“We have to adjust the amount of tons that we will have to transport, the costs that we will have for this transfer, for the shipping companies, for the transport companies and also for our concessionaire,” he detailed.
A one-year pilot test to evaluate results
Once the parameters of the transfer have been established, a one-year pilot test will begin to analyze the economic, environmental and operational impact of sending waste to Mallorca.
The waste concessionaire of Eivissa will be responsible for adapting the system during this experimental phase. “We hope that it will last more or less a year, to see what are the consequences or the results we have of this transfer and that there is no inconvenience to the citizens of Eivissa,” said Andres.
