Ecovidriotogether with the Consell de Ibizahas launched the campaign Recycling glass: a small gesture, a big impact with the aim of promoting the recycling of glass containers on the island and, at the same time, support the conservation of the loggerhead turtle and the protection of marine ecosystems. The campaign, which will run from November 1 to 30, includes awareness-raising activities in the five municipalities of Ibiza, with a special focus on educating the population about the positive impact that recycling has on the environment. Throughout this month, awareness actions will be carried out at various points on the island, where an environmental educator will present the campaign with informative material and gifts of organic cotton bags for participants. This campaign seeks not only to increase the rate of glass recycling, but also to raise funds for the Cap Blanc Aquarium in Sant Antoni de Portmany, an entity selected to receive a donation that will contribute to the preservation of local marine wildlife. In addition to these actions, the campaign poses a recycling challenge for residents, encouraging citizens to increase the amount of recycled containers. The more glass collected, the greater the contribution to the Aquarium, which carries out educational and conservation projects related to the oceans and the loggerhead turtle, a species that lives in the Mediterranean.
Ibiza highlighted in recycling
Recycling data in Ibiza highlight the importance of this initiative: in 2023, Ibizans recycled a total of 10,362,080 kilograms of glass, representing an average of 65 kg per inhabitant. The island has 1,095 igloos for glass collection, achieving a ratio of one container for every 145 inhabitants. Recycling glass offers numerous environmental benefits: glass can be 100% recycled without losing its properties, which helps to reduce the growth of landfills and minimize the extraction of raw materials. In addition, the use of recycled glass in the production of new packaging reduces CO2 emissions and energy consumption, contributing to the fight against climate change. The campaign Reciclar vidre: un petit gest, un gran impacte represents an opportunity for Ibiza residents to actively participate in the protection of the island’s natural environment and reinforce the commitment to recycling as part of a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
