The Commission of Institutional and General Affairs of the Balearic Parliament received this Wednesday the general director of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, who appeared to explain the actions carried out during the episodes of heavy rains that affected Ibiza and Formentera between September 30 and October 13, 2025.
His intervention, requested by the Socialist Parliamentary Group, focused on detailing the technical and operational decisions that were activated during the emergency. Gárriz assured that the Govern acted “with technical rigor, absolute transparency and with a single objective: to protect the citizens”.
During his statement, the Director General reviewed the chronology of weather alerts, the activation of the regional civil protection plans and the deployment of resources, including the Military Emergency Unit, mobilized to reinforce the work on the island. He also highlighted the coordination with the security forces, firefighters, municipal services, the Civil Guard and technical staff from different areas of the administration.
The head of Emergencies emphasized that, despite the magnitude of the rainfall – which reached 200 liters per square meter in a few hours –no casualties were reported. He attributed this result “to a greater public awareness” and to the effectiveness of the messages of self-protection spread by the official channels and the media. He also defended the decision to keep schoolchildren in educational centers during the worst of the storm to “avoid risky movements on affected roads”.
Gárriz took advantage of his speech to thank the work of the emergency teams, technical staff and volunteers, as well as the collaboration of the Consell de Ibiza and the municipalities of the island. He also announced that improvements in the protocols for future similar situations are already being evaluated.
