A message viralized through Whatsapp has generated concern and alarm among the neighbors of the area of Jesus, for the alleged rupture of the Santa Eulària sewage treatment plant that would be causing pollution and problems in the water network. However, after several confirmations made by La Voz de Ibiza, it is a ‘fake news‘ that was spread from a message forwarded hundreds of times. “Santa Eulària’s water treatment plant is broken, there is an outbreak of hepatitis A, they recommend toilets to cook with bottled water”, warned the viralized message that has also reached this editorial office. Meanwhile, a neighbor of the area has added that “I am in a community group of Jesus (mainly with local people from Ibiza) and they are waiting for confirmation of whether it is true or not”. Abaqua has confirmed to La Voz de Ibiza that “the treatment plant is working well and that the new outfall is already up and running. Also, Health has confirmed that transmission through the desalination plant is not possible“. In addition, they have remarked that “the water from a treatment plant does not go to the tap“. Precisely, the water treated by the treatment plant goes to irrigation. On the other hand, the water that comes out of the taps comes from wells and desalination plants. Therefore, it is impossible for a possible inconvenience in the treatment plant to be transferred to homes. Meanwhile, the Health Area of Ibiza has confirmed that “there is no such outbreak” of hepatitis A. While awaiting confirmation from the Ministry of Health of the Government.
City Hall
Following the advance of La Voz de Ibiza, the City Council of Santa Eulària has issued a statement clarifying that “the water in the municipality is drinkable and we have no communication, parameter or indicator that points to the contrary”. In addition, they report that they have not “received any communication from Health that there is any risk to the population about Hepatitis A. Although it is true, whenever specific cases are detected, the established protocols are activated to prevent the spread”. Regarding the treatment plant located in the municipality, as advanced by La Voz de Ibiza, “Abaqua has confirmed that there are no incidents and that there is no incidence in the treatment plant of Cala Llonga. It should be noted that the water treated in the treatment plants is not used to supply homes”. Aqualia, the company that provides the Municipal Water Service of Santa Eulàriades Riu, “has no record of any spillage or breakage in recent days,” they add. For this reason, the entire population is asked to “always question the information received through social networks and refer to official bodies”. THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE
