The extraordinary plenary session of the Consell Insular de Formentera has approved this Friday, November 7, a budget amendment amounting to 4.1 million euros, intended to cover various expenses that cannot be postponed to next year.
The measure, presented after correcting a technical error detected in a previous processing, is financed from the liquid cash surplus derived from the liquidation of last year’s budget. According to the Consell, the objective is to attend obligations and projects already executed or in progress in different areas of the insular administration.
Among the actions included are the custody services for minors, the rehabilitation of the stands of the municipal soccer field, the collaboration with the Tax Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATIB) and the acquisition of a share of Tragsa, a public environmental services company.
Guardianship of minors, the main focus
Of the 4.1 million approved, 3.2 million are intended to cover the expenses derived from the guardianship of unaccompanied migrant minors under the protection of the island administration.
The proposal obtained the support of the Sa Unió government team, the abstention of the PSOE and Gent per Formentera, and the vote against of the non-attached councilor.
“This modification will allow the continuity of services and actions already underway,” said sources of the Consell, who stressed that the measure “responds to the need to maintain the financial balance and meet unavoidable commitments”.
Credit modifications are a common tool in local administrations during the final part of the fiscal year, when the budget surplus is used to face urgent or already executed expenses. In the case of Formentera, social spending linked to the guardianship of minors represents one of the most significant items of the island’s budget.
