The Small and Medium Enterprises of Formentera (PIMEF) presented this Thursday the results of the valuation survey of the 2025 season, a study conducted on a sample of 52 companies from different sectors of the island. The data shows an overall improvement over the previous year, but also reflects growing concerns about rising rental prices, increased costs and lack of nightlife options.
Half of the companies surveyed rate the season as good or very good, compared to 40% in 2024. At the same time, negative evaluations fell significantly: only 11.76% considered the season to have been bad or very bad, a significant decrease compared to the 21% recorded in the previous study.
June, the best month; October, the weakest month
The analysis by month confirms that June was once again the period of greatest business activity, with the best percentages of positive valuations. On the other hand, October was the weakest month in economic terms, a trend that is repeated with respect to previous seasons, according to the data collected in the graphic report of the survey, where the last month reached the highest percentage of “bad” and “very bad” ratings (27.5%).
Improved value for money perception
One of the indicators that shows the most notable evolution is the quality-price ratio of the destination. A 26.67% of those surveyed consider that Formentera offers good value for money, compared to 16% who valued it this way last year. For PIMEF, the introduction of this question has favored that companies strive to improve the quality of services offered, as highlighted by the entity during the presentation of the study.
Exorbitant rent: 40% pay more than 8,000 euros per month
Difficulty in meeting rental costs has become one of the main problems for the business fabric. The percentage of companies with owned premises is growing slightly (from 51% to 53%), but among those who work in leased premises, the study reveals a particularly worrying fact: 40% pay more than 8,000 euros per month, a figure that in 2024 only affected 10% of those surveyed.
These amounts, according to PIMEF, “have a direct impact on the final price of the product or service”, generating pressure on the competitiveness of small businesses and hotels on the island.
The base report reflects this phenomenon and shows it in the table of rental brackets: the highest bracket (over 8,000 euros) is the one that has grown the most this year, with 40% of responses, compared to minimum percentages in the lower brackets.
Rising costs and lower profitability
Corporate profitability continues to suffer from the generalized increase in costs. According to the data, by 2025 most companies have suffered an increase in:
-
Commodities: up to 49% reported increases of more than 11%.
-
Supplies (water and electricity): 40.7% have seen increases of between 11% and 30%.
-
Freight transport: almost 63% have suffered increases of more than 11%.
-
Taxes: more than 54% claim to have paid more than the previous year.
These data, shown in the tables on pages 7 and 8 of the technical report, explain why profitability has fallen for a large number of businesses, especially due to the added cost of employee housing, which is borne by 60% of employers.
Against this backdrop, 44% of companies expect to raise prices in 2026, a higher percentage than in previous seasons.
Street vending, nightlife and “weekend effect”.
At the sectoral level, the survey shows an improvement in the control of street vending, especially among businesses, which value positively the inspection actions carried out by the Consell and the security forces.
The same is not true for nightlife, which has been the subject of complaints from businessmen and residents. 71.43% of the establishments in the restaurant sector reported having received negative comments or suggestions for improvement from their customers, according to the graph on page 14 of the report.
The study also reveals a reduction in the weekend effect, with a lower concentration of sales between Friday and Sunday, indicating a change in tourism consumption habits.
PIMEF proposes solutions and calls for balance
During the presentation, PIMEF recalled that it has submitted proposals to the Consell to improve the coexistence between nightlife and neighborhood rest, through acoustic solutions and regulatory criteria that allow moving towards a sustainable model for residents and businesses.
The survey was conducted in November 2025, through an online questionnaire addressed to associated companies from various sectors, and collects the opinion of a total of 52 businesses in Formentera.
