The Consell de Formentera, through the Servei d’Assessorament Lingüístic, has presented the 2026 calendar, which this year is dedicated to the church of Sant Francesc, coinciding with the commemoration of 300 years since the first stone was laid for its construction.
This annual initiative has established itself as a tool for cultural and linguistic dissemination. Each edition revolves around a specific theme linked to the identity of the island and its tangible and intangible heritage.
A calendar as a window to cultural heritage
In recent years, the calendar of the Servei d’Assessorament Lingüístic has focused on areas as diverse as the traditional dishes of the countryside and the sea, the most representative species of the Formentera forest or the process of making traditional bread, among other contents of ethnographic interest.
On this occasion, the choice of the church of Sant Francesc allows citizens -and also those who visit the island- to get closer to one of the most emblematic elements of its historical and cultural heritage. This was pointed out by the Councilor for Language Policy, Óscar Portas, who stressed that this year’s calendar “offers a new opportunity to bring citizens closer to the historical and cultural heritage of Formentera”.
Twelve months of history and architectural details
Throughout the twelve months of the year, the calendar proposes a journey through the history of the temple, accompanied by images and significant architectural details of the building. These include the stained glass windows, the baptismal font, the small bell made by one of the inmates of the Colònia penitenciària or the original railing of the choir, elements that help to contextualize the historical and symbolic value of the church.
The publication thus combines dissemination, historical memory and enhancement of heritage, with an accessible and visual approach that reinforces the link between the population and its cultural environment.

The Consell de Formentera has published a total of 2,000 copies of the 2026 calendar. Those interested can pick it up free of charge at the usual points of citizen attention of the Consell.
