The Consell de Formentera has announced the dispatch of two firefighters and a first intervention vehicle, loaded with motor pumps and rescue equipment, to join the support tasks in areas affected by the DANA in Valencia. The departure of the team has been coordinated with the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Balearic Government and has the support of the Baleària Foundation, which has facilitated the transport of the troops from Formentera.
Departure for Valencia and deployment of specialized equipment
The Formentera firefighters departed at 8:30 this morning, Thursday, November 7, on a Baleària ferry bound for Ibiza, from where they will continue on to Valencia at 11:00, also on a vessel provided by the shipping company. They are taking with them a trailer equipped with three motor pumps, hand tools, hoses and other devices necessary for intervention and rescue work in the most affected areas. The contingent will remain in Valencia until November 12. Once this first stage is completed, they will be replaced by another team composed of two firefighters and two volunteers from the Civil Protection of Formentera, who will travel with a second first intervention vehicle and more specialized equipment, with the plan to continue the tasks until November 16.
Solidarity efforts of the firefighters of Formentera
The rapid response and solidarity efforts of Formentera’s firefighters have been evident this week, as two of the island’s firefighters volunteered their days off to assist in the rescue efforts and provide personal support to their affected family members. One of them joined the ranks of the Balearic rescue group, Protemar, while the other focused on supporting his relatives in the disaster zone.
