The deputy Llorenç Córdoba Marí, independent representative of the Mixed Group in the Balearic Parliament, has obtained the commitment of the Government for Formentera to have effective representation in the future Airport Authority of the Balearic Islands, currently in the parliamentary process.
During an interpellation to the Minister of Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo Hernández, Córdoba defended the need to recognize the uniqueness of Formentera, an island that lacks an airport and was not included in the text of the bill. Cordoba stressed that this exclusion violates the principle of insular equity, given that air connectivity in the Balearic Islands is linked to inter-island mobility.
“Formentera is the only island without an airport and, even so, it does not appear in the law,” the deputy recalled, stressing that the island depends exclusively on the maritime link with Ibiza.
Technical allegations from the Consell de Formentera
Cordoba reported that the Consell Insular de Formentera presented technical allegations prepared by its legal services based on a request from the deputy himself. He thanked the work carried out by the Consell’s teams, highlighting their thoroughness and institutional sensitivity.
“We want to move forward together, but from the recognition of our uniqueness,” said Cordoba before the Parliament, insisting that the representation of Formentera with voice and vote in the bodies of the new Airport Authority is essential to ensure equality between territories.
Commitment of the Govern
Minister Mateo acknowledged the demands made by Formentera and announced that the Government will include a specific representation for the island in the institutional design of the new airport authority. In addition, other proposals made in the allegations presented will be addressed.
This commitment represents a key institutional advance for Formentera, which strengthens its presence in the regional decision-making bodies and increases citizen confidence in their political representatives.
