Ibiza will celebrate this Wednesday, November 13, for the first time, the conference ‘Science and technology for women’, organized by the Bit Foundation simultaneously in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The event will take place from 09.00 am at the Bit Ibiza Center, with the participation of secondary school students from different institutes of the Balearic Islands.
The initiative, as explained by the Bit Foundation, aims to encourage the interest of female students in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) during their secondary and high school education.

Balearic women scientists as references
One of the most anticipated moments will be the round table ‘Why I decided to study STEM’, with the participation of four outstanding women scientists from the Islands:
-
Estella Matutes, physician and consultant at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital, London.
-
Salud Deudero, marine biologist and director of the Oceanographic Center of the Balearic Islands (IEO-CSIC).
-
María del Mar Muñoz, computer engineer and CEO of IT Travel Services.
-
Marta Pérez, Environmental Sciences graduate and coordinator of the Plastic Free Menorca alliance.
These women researchers will share their personal and professional experiences to inspire the participating students, highlighting the role of women in the scientific and technological fields.
Workshops and exhibitions in Ibiza
During the day, there will also be hands-on workshops on robotics, 3D printing and Digicraft, as well as a contest on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students will be able to visit the exhibitions ‘Women who changed the world’ and ‘Women who change the world’, dedicated to key female figures in the history of science.
The project, promoted by the Directorate General for Innovation and Digital Transformation through the Bit Foundation and coordinated by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE), is being developed in 19 technology parks across the country.
Promoting female talent
With this day, the Bit Foundation seeks to break stereotypes and reduce the gender gap in scientific careers, a goal that is part of its educational innovation strategy in the Balearic Islands. In its 2025 edition, Ibiza joins the initiative for the first time, consolidating its role as a technological and educational reference in the Islands.
