The Permaculture Association of the Pitiusas Islands (APIP) has launched a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform to build an agroforestry school adapted to the Mediterranean climate in Ibiza. The initiative, which seeks to strengthen education in sustainable practices, will be developed on a five-hectare farm that the association has been managing since 2005.
According to the group, the objective is to set up a multi-purpose covered classroom to offer courses, workshops and cultural and community activities in a protected environment. The space will facilitate theoretical and practical training in agroecology and syntropic agriculture, a regenerative technique of food production in harmony with the ecosystem.
A living laboratory of Mediterranean agroforestry
Since its foundation, APIP has been promoting soil regeneration and food sovereignty through permaculture techniques. In 2023, the collective promoted the first Center for Training, Research and Demonstration in Successional Agroforestry adapted to the climatic conditions of the Mediterranean, and created the Agroforestry Command, a network of technicians, farmers and activists who collaborate with the center.
Currently, the farm functions as a “living center of experimentation” where practices such as integrated water management, the recovery of ancestral knowledge and rural volunteering are combined. People from all over the world have already participated in its activities, consolidating a community of learning and collective action.
“We believe that it is possible to regenerate the territory from the local level, and for this we need a suitable space to share knowledge and experiences,” the organization explains.
