The Guardia Civil has located in Ibiza a 39 year old man who had been reported missing by his family on November 28th, after he left his home the night before to withdraw money from an ATM and did not return. The man did not answer the phone and had not contacted any family member, which led his family to fear that he might have suffered a serious incident.
After receiving the complaint, agents of the Sant Antoni de Portmany post immediately activated a search device, mobilizing all available means to locate him. Several hours later, and thanks to the efforts made, the civil guards located the missing person in a game room on the island.
As confirmed by the agents, the man had spent a total of 18 hours continuously between different gambling establishments. Although he was in good physical condition, the situation highlighted a possible disorder associated with gambling addiction.
The Guardia Civil reminds that compulsive gambling is a psychological problem that drives the person to gamble compulsively, causing serious personal, family and economic consequences. For this reason, they stress the importance of those suffering from this addiction receiving professional support, either through specialized therapists or support groups.
