The Hotel Business Federation of Ibiza and Formentera (Fehif) considers that the authorized tourist places in villas in the Pitiusas are “sufficient for our destination, if not too many”. In a communiqué sent this Thursday, the employers’ association puts at 20,000 the authorized places in isolated houses or in process in Ibiza and more than 5,000 in Formentera, which means, according to them, a “25% of the classic offer”. At this point, it is recognized that these villas are an “attraction” for the destination and “satisfy” the demand, but, on the other hand, they generate “a lot of traffic and overcrowding” in the rural area, which “does not favor coexistence”. In addition, hoteliers are against increasing the number of tourist places, since what most concerns residents is housing. According to them, it does not make sense to increase the number of dwellings for tourist use. Finally, the hotel employers claim to the Balearic government to return to the original wording in the section referring to housing located in buildings under horizontal property regime, considering that the most convenient is the “absolute prohibition of its tourist use”.
