The president of the Consell Insular de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, has appealed to unity and balance as fundamental axes to face the main challenges of the island, during his institutional Christmas message, delivered this Wednesday from the Parc Insular de Serveis de Sa Coma, in Ibiza, in an event held at the end of a particularly complex year for the island.

Balance of a year marked by the DANA
Marí has defined 2025 as an “intense” year, with moments of celebration and also of great difficulties, remembering especially the impact of the DANA that affected Ibiza and tested the response capacity of the institutions and society.
The president expressly thanked the emergency services, municipalities, security forces, social entities and citizens for their work, highlighting the speed of action and underlining that work is already underway to reinforce infrastructures, protocols and resources to face future extreme events.
Tourism, intrusion and control of the vehicle fleet
The management of tourism and the fight against illegal activities have been another of the pillars of the speech, which Marí has described as “key to the future of the economy and coexistence in Ibiza”.
The president highlighted the increase in inspections and sanctions against intrusion, as well as the first results of the new vehicle regulation law, which has made it possible to curb the uncontrolled growth of the vehicle fleet during the high season.
Strategic projects for 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, the Consell Insular will continue to promote strategic projects to improve services and facilities, as Marí said in his speech.
Among them, he mentioned the works already underway on the new Official Language School, the creation of a space for the maritime surveillance service, as well as relevant actions such as the Caçadors crossroads, the Ses Nou Rodades Heritage Center, the Parc Motor and a new sports pavilion in sa Blanca Dona.
Housing and population growth
Access to housing has been identified as the main concern of citizens, recognizing the impact of population growth in a limited territory such as Ibiza.
Marí defended the need to increase the supply of affordable housing and warned that “when there is no housing, there are no opportunities either”, regretting that people who come to the island in search of a future are forced to live in precarious settlements.
Immigration and pressure on island services
The president has also raised his voice against the massive arrival of immigrant boats, a situation that, as he pointed out, has overwhelmed the island’s care services.
In this context, he called for legal and regulated immigration and a firm response against the mafias that traffic people, putting their lives at risk at sea.
An island of balance and cohesion
Marí concluded by reaffirming the Consell’s commitment to a more balanced Ibiza, with more sustainable mobility, support for trade and the primary sector, protection of the territory and an improvement in public transport thanks to the new contract approved.
“The goal is an island that advances with criteria, that cares for its people and that demonstrates that together there are no challenges that we cannot overcome,” he said, before wishing a healthy and strong Christmas holiday season for the new year.
