The squall Goretti will leave in the coming days an episode marked by strong wind and rough seas in the Pitiusas, with gusts that could exceed 70 kilometers per hour and waves of up to three meters, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The Aemet has placed the wind as the main protagonist of the final stretch of the week, especially between Friday and Saturday, when the storm will begin first in Ibiza and Formentera before spreading to the rest of the Balearic Islands.
Yellow warning in the Pitiusas Islands early Friday morning
The meteorological agency has activated a yellow warning for Ibiza and Formentera during the early hours of Friday, January 9, between 00.00 and 08.59 hours.
In that range, maximum gusts of up to 70 km/h are expected, with a wind from the west, with a probability of between 40% and 70%.
In addition, the warning includes a risk of coastal phenomena, with westerly winds of 50 to 60 km/h (force 7) and waves of between 2 and 3 meters, which could complicate the situation on the coast and on maritime routes, especially during the central hours of the warning.
Temperatures rise and occasional rain showers arrive
Although the wind will focus the attention, the delegation of Aemet in the Balearic Islands has explained that the arrival of Goretti will also bring a rise in temperatures, with milder minimums and maximums in usual values for the season.
This Wednesday remains a “transition” day, with a cold atmosphere, but from Thursday onwards the frost will disappear and temperatures will rise progressively.
As for rainfall, the Aemet forecasts weak, occasional and isolated showers, especially towards the end of the week and during Saturday, in a context of variable skies and intermittent cloudiness.
Weekend: persistent wind and rough seas
Friday and Saturday are expected to be the most active phase of the episode, with moderate to strong winds, turning northwest at night and with a situation of rough seas that could also be repeated during the day on Saturday.
On Sunday, the influence of Goretti will begin to diminish, although there could still be moderate winds with some strong gusts, while temperatures will remain mild for this time of the year.
