The Consell Insular de Ibiza has approved a draft budget for the year 2026 that reaches the record figure of 179,828,433.85 euros, which represents a significant increase of 24.35% over the budget for the year 2025, which was 144,612,970.89 euros. This historic economic project is based on three main pillars: the unprecedented investment forecast, the improvement of essential services and a strong investment in Social Services and support for people.
President Vicent Marí stressed that this record budget is the confirmation of the work done by the Consell Insular, with a series of investments that seek to transform the island into a better place to live.
The investment
One of the most outstanding items is investment, which will amount to 39.5 million euros, representing an increase of 115.05% over the previous year, constituting the “most investing budget in the history” of the institution,,. This amount is reflected in chapter 6 of real investments, which experiences the most pronounced increase (+115.05%).
Among the most important investments, totaling 39,496,807.21 euros, are:
- The traffic circle at the “Cazadores” intersection (€6,828,464.44).
- The Ses Nou Rodades Intangible Culture Center (€5,173,629.43).
- The Sa Blancadona Multidisciplinary Pavilion (€4,948,113.02).
- The Official Language School (€4,076,126.42).
- El Parc Motor (€4,356,096.21).
In addition to these figures, other additions are foreseen, such as a municipal cooperation program, the repetition of the contribution of the Access to Housing Plan (endowed with 3 million euros) and aid for landscape maintenance. The Insular Plan for Access to Housing will be financed with carryovers.
A commitment to people and services
President Marí has insisted that this is “the budget of people and Social Services”. The Consell foresees a strong investment in this area, including record subsidy figures for entities of the third sector, as well as the improvement of the working conditions of its workers through the recognition of the insularity bonus.
The social effort is also translated into the creation of new services, such as the 24-hour Crisis Center for victims of sexual aggressions and the arrangement of care for minors from 0 to 11 years of age. Chapter 4 of current transfers, which increases by 10 million euros, includes more than 7 million euros in social aid for entities, town councils and users, and an item of one million euros for students on the island.
In terms of mobility, the new bus contract and the maintenance of the free service for holders of any island transport ticket will involve an expenditure of 15.5 million euros.
Another important development is the implementation of the Pilot Plan for the transfer of waste (fems) from Ibiza to the Son Reus incineration plant in Mallorca. The total expenditure forecast for this transfer during 2026 is 10 million euros.
Sources of financing
The budget increase comes mainly from the increase in income forecast by the Autonomous Community, which in 2026 will amount to 110,072,530.16 euros, an increase of 25.2 million euros over the current fiscal year.
The Councilor for Finance and Economic Management, Salvador Losa, explained that the tax burden on citizens is not increased. State revenues increase by 1.4 million Euros and the forecast of income from Own Funds rises to 13,606,409.07 Euros, including expected income from fines for tourist intrusion and transport, and higher income from ITV fees due to the entry into operation of a second mobile plant.
In addition, the possibility of subscribing a loan of 17,379,384.80 Euros is contemplated, although Councilor Losa recalled that a loan of 9.1 million Euros was planned for 2025, which, in the end, did not need to be subscribed thanks to the incorporation of residual funds and other sources of financing.
The remaining funds will also be used to finance projects such as the Benirràs road, urban development improvements in Santa Eulària and Sant Antoni, or the reconversion of the EI-10 section between Figueretes and Can Misses into an urban area (13 million euros).
