The son of Inspector Faustino Nogales, currently in provisional detention for his alleged collaboration with the international network that used Ibiza as a key point to introduce large shipments of cocaine and hashish into the Balearic Islands, has been released with charges after being arrested on Thursday in Mallorca.
Investigators suspect that the inspector’s son may have provided confidential information to the criminal organization, alerting its members about ongoing police actions. These leaks, according to the same sources, would fit the pattern attributed to Nogales, who is also accused of providing sensitive data to drug traffickers.
Faustino Nogales is one of the 76 people arrested as part of Operation Manso-Enroque Bal, a large joint operation carried out by the National Police and the Guardia Civil, which has led to one of the biggest recent blows against drug trafficking in Mallorca.
Among those arrested in the operation are important names in the island’s criminal panorama, such as Stefan Milojevic, leader of the United Tribuns; the lawyer Gonzalo Márquez; or ‘El Vito’, considered one of the main drug traffickers of the Son Banya settlement.
The proceedings continue under secret while the investigation advances to determine the real scope of the police leaks and the degree of involvement of the inspector’s entourage in the dismantled criminal structure.
