The Ibiza Town Hall has implemented a measure to promote economic activity outside the high season. From now on, establishments that remain open at least 9 months a year will be able to benefit from a reduction in the rates of occupation of public roads.
This initiative, approved at the last municipal plenary, seeks to keep more businesses in business during the winter, boosting life in the neighborhoods and offering more services to residents and visitors.
Fee reductions and facilities for businesses with annual activity
Owners of establishments operating for at least 9 months of the year can now apply for the fee reduction. The price per square meter during the six months of high season will be 15 euros, with a payment system to be carried out between August and September, coinciding with the municipal tax collection period.
To facilitate adherence to this measure, those who submit the application in 2025 will be able to opt for automatic renewal in the following years, without the need to carry out new procedures. In addition, the City Council has confirmed that these businesses will not have to provide additional documentation, unless expressly required by the Consistory.
Applications must be submitted before March 31. If they are submitted after April 1, the benefit will not be applied in this fiscal year, but in 2026.
Stricter conditions for seasonal businesses
Establishments that choose to operate less than 9 months per year will be subject to different conditions. In their case, the price per square meter will be 22.50 euros and payment must be made in full before March 31, regardless of when they open their doors.
In addition, these businesses must pay a minimum of six months, even if their activity is minor. Unlike establishments that operate almost all year round, in this case the renewal will not be automatic and must be requested annually. More detailed documentation will also be required, including plans of the establishment and the area of occupation, as well as photographs and sketches showing all the elements to be installed on the public road.
An incentive to maintain activity in neighborhoods
The City Council has stressed the importance of this measure as a tool to encourage the opening of businesses in the winter months, avoiding empty streets and reinforcing the supply of services for residents. In addition, it has recalled that once the application has been submitted, it will not be possible to modify it, so owners are advised to calculate precisely the space they will need to occupy on the public road.
Another novelty introduced by the regulation is the obligation to remove the furniture from the terraces every night, ensuring that the streets remain clear and tidy outside the hours of activity.
