The Consell de Govern has approved this Friday the renewal of the agreement of the guardianship and support service for adults for a total amount of 9.4 million euros for the period 2026-2029, a decision that directly strengthens the care for people with disabilities in Ibiza, where 77 places are maintained. The measure, announced by the spokesman of the Executive, Antoni Costa, is a key step to ensure the continuity of a service that guarantees the exercise of the legal capacity of particularly vulnerable users and requires a complex socio-legal structure.
The agreement distributes 7.13 million for the Aldaba Foundation and 2.27 million for the Fundació Tutelar Demà, which manage 550 places in the Balearic Islands, of which the Pitiusa Major concentrates a relevant part. This renewal also incorporates the update of rates approved in July, which recognized the differential cost of operating in Ibiza. Thus, the monthly price of an intense level place will go from 421.89 euros in 2025 to 471.71 euros in Ibiza, and will reach 499.98 euros in 2027, an increase that employers in the sector have been demanding to ensure the sustainability of the service.
Context of the measure
The decision of the Govern lands at a time when the island drags structural imbalances in the field of disability, such as the impact of rising housing prices on social and professional entities. It also comes after announcing progress in reducing waiting lists for the assessment of disability, a problem that has burdened for years the access to resources and uniquely affects the Pitiusas, where the average time to obtain an opinion has come to far exceed that of Mallorca and Menorca.
In this context, the renewal of the agreement is a guarantee of stability for entities working on the island with people under guardianship or judicial support measures. The Govern stresses that this is a “decisive” reinforcement to dignify the working conditions of the staff that attends these cases and to ensure that users receive “quality” legal, economic and social support, a particularly relevant element in areas stressed by the rotation of professionals and housing costs.
How conservatorship works
The guardianship service serves adults who require support for asset management, protection of their rights and decision making in essential areas of their lives, always under judicial resolution. In Ibiza, where the demand has grown in parallel to the complexity of the cases, the entities warned of the need for stable funding to avoid interruptions or limitations of the available resources.
The updating of the agreement until 2029 thus guarantees the continuity of the service on the island, in line with other improvements implemented in recent months in the field of dependency, such as the updates of residential rates or the reinforcement of island technical teams, as previously reported in this newspaper.
