Ibiza faces the Christmas holidays with a remarkable tourist demand, despite the fact that most of its hotel offer remains closed during the winter. Currently, only between 3% and 5% of the island’s hotel plant is still operational, which is equivalent to about thirty establishments, mainly urban hotels and agritourisms, which concentrate tourist activity at this time of the year.
Occupancy figures are positive, averaging between 60% and 80% during the holidays. In the case of urban hotels, the balance is even more favorable, with an increase of 10% over last year. For the period between Christmas Eve and Epiphany, occupancy is around 70%, although the moment of greatest demand will come on New Year’s Eve, when many establishments expect to hang the full house sign , according to a report by IB3.
This occupancy peak has had a direct impact on prices. Hotel rates for the night of December 31 have increased significantly, with prices ranging from 135 euros for a basic room to 530 euros for the highest category options. Visitors who choose Ibiza on these dates have an average stay of three and a half days and mostly respond to a senior tourist profile , quiet and away from the nightlife tourism of the summer.
In terms of origin, domestic tourism has a significant weight thanks to the active air connections during the winter and represents around 30% of the clients in some hotels. The rest of the demand comes mainly from European markets, with a special presence of Dutch, Italian, English and German tourists.
