The Santa Eulària des Riu Reading Club has been distinguished with the Pitiusas Letters Award of Honor 2026, a recognition that celebrates its twentieth anniversary and its outstanding work in the promotion of reading and literary culture in the Pitiusas. The announcement was made on November 8, during a commemorative ceremony in which the trajectory of the longest-lived and most active club on the islands was highlighted.
The award, which will be officially presented in March 2026, was announced by Ramon Mayol, editor and member of the organizing committee of the event, who stressed the “undeniable merits of the club for its perseverance in spreading the habit of reading, debate and culture on the island”.
“This award recognizes the silent but fundamental work of a group of readers who have been building community and culture for twenty years,” said Mayol.
A recognition of cultural constancy
The Award of Honor of the Pitiusas Letters values the role of the club as an essential space for the cultural life of Santa Eulària. For two decades, this group has served as a meeting point for literature lovers, encouraging reflection and creation, as well as giving visibility to local and national authors.
The recognition was also a tribute to the work of its members, especially its historical coordinators:
-
Iolanda Bonet, founder and first coordinator, who initiated the project;
-
Agnès Vidal, a key player in the consolidation of the group;
-
and the writer Lluís Ferrer Ferrer, current coordinator of the club.
The commemorative event, held at the local cultural center, was attended by Ibizan authors such as Cristina Amanda Tur, Helena Tur, Rebecca Beltrán, Joan Mayans, Toni Montserrat and Vicent Tur, among others. The evening was attended by the Councilor for Culture, Marisol Ferrer, who congratulated the club members for “their constant contribution to the cultural life of the municipality”.
An award with a future vocation
The Premio de las Letras Pitiusas, organized by MELQ.art, celebrates this year its tenth anniversary and keeps open its calls for works of poetry and short stories, in Catalan and Spanish. The rules can be consulted on the official website.
The jury valued the role of the Reading Club as “a cultural reference that has united generations around the love of books”.
The official award ceremony will be held in March 2026, at a gala that will bring together cultural representatives from all over the island.
