The Eivissa Town Hall presented this Wednesday the new accessibility improvements of the Roman mausoleum of the Peace Park, coinciding with the Day of Persons with Disabilities.
With these actions, the municipal team transforms this archaeological site -considered the most important discovery of the last 50 years in Ibiza-into a fully adapted space for people with visual impairment and reduced mobility. The total investment amounts to about 5,000 euros.
The third deputy mayor, Blanca Hernández, and the councilor of Social Welfare, Lola Penín, guided representatives of social entities during an explanatory tour. Users of Addif, Eivissa Inclusiva and ONCE attended, who valued the improvements implemented. Also, this visit allowed to check the actual operation of each measure.
3D replication and intelligent signage
Among the most outstanding actions, the City Council created a 3D replica of the mausoleum, which facilitates the tactile and spatial understanding of the monument. In addition, it installed a
The project also includes a tactile walkway that significantly improves the autonomy of people who use a white cane. Thanks to this pavement, visitors can find their way around more safely and move around without difficulty.
One more step in the protection of the site
These improvements complete the work of covering and enclosure of the mausoleum, awarded for 82,119 euros and started in February 2024. The Strategic Plan of Municipal Investments of the Consell Insular de Eivissa (Plan 5) financed this intervention, which allowed progress without delays and consolidate the protection of the site.
During the media attention, Blanca Hernandez said that “from the first day of this mandate we expedite the processing of strategic projects to transform Eivissa, capital of the island”. In addition, the Heritage technician, Rosa Gurrea, recalled that the mausoleum was discovered in 2022 during works prior to its transfer to the Peace Park, located about 15 meters from the original point. Subsequently, the Consistory began its musealization and now culminates its accessible adaptation.
