The judicial bodies of the judicial district of Ibiza, which also includes Formentera, began the third quarter of 2025 with 13,824 cases pending, according to data from the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). Between July and September, the island’s courts received 6,370 new cases and resolved 7,004 procedures, which placed the volume of pending cases at the end of the quarter at 13,563, that is, 261 less than at the beginning of the period.
During the quarter, the number of cases resolved exceeded the number of new cases filed. However, the difference between resolved and filed cases(634 more resolved than filed) does not fully translate into a reduction of the pendency, which was 261 cases, due to the usual statistical adjustments of the CGPJ, which include reassignments, accumulations, inhibitions, changes of procedural phase and other internal movements that do not count as resolutions or new filings.
Breakdown of judicial activity in Ibiza
Of the total of 6,370 cases filed, the criminal jurisdiction accounted for most, followed by the civil jurisdiction, which also maintains a high volume of incoming proceedings in the island’s courts.
As for the 7,004 cases resolved, the largest number of cases was also handled by the criminal courts, especially the examining courts, followed by the civil courts of first instance.
