Ecuadorian tennis player Nicolás Lapentti was the star of the first Concept Hotel Group Tennis Days, held last Sunday, December 21 at the renovated facilities of the El Comodín Tennis Club.
Lapentti, one of the international tennis references of his generation, brought prestige to a tournament that brought together some of the best players on the island. The former professional player has five ATP titles to his name, a semifinal at the Australian Open and the all-time record of victories in five-set matches in the Davis Cup, a record that raised the competitive level and projection of the event.
The competition was organized by Xavi Flaquer and Joan Lladó and had a large presence of Ibizan players. Among them was the veteran Joan Marge, who teamed up with Lapentti in doubles, reaching the semifinals of the tournament and becoming one of the sporting attractions of the day.
In the strictly competitive section, Pere Tarrés was proclaimed champion in the individual modality after beating Jesús Ramírez by 7/5. In doubles, the title went to the couple formed by Quico Flaquer and Pedro Cardona, who beat Pere Tarrés and Henrik in the final by 8/6.
The event also had the support of several Ibizan companies, including Grupo Policlínica, Restaurante Bon Lloc, Vintage de Sebastián Gamboa, Ópticas Dr. Marí, La Morocha Bakery, Agroturismo Can Arabí, Vila Vins, Be Drinks, Spar, CBbc Ebusus Restaurant and Gyrotonic Eivissa, whose support was key to the development of the event.
The first Concept Hotel Group Tennis Days closed with a positive balance in both sporting and organizational aspects, consolidating itself as a new event to be taken into account in the tennis calendar of Ibiza and laying the groundwork for future editions with growing projection.
