XIV BALEARIC CHILDREN'S PARLIAMENT

Meet the proposals of the young people of Santa Eulària to make the use of social networks safer.

Santa Eulària students presented at the XIV Balearic Children's Parliament a set of measures to reduce risks in the digital environment, focusing on child protection and the importance of family support.

On the occasion of World Children’s Day, the XIV Balearic Children’s Parliament brought together young representatives from different municipalities in the Plenary Hall under the slogan “Encén-te pels drets de la infància”. Santa Eulària des Riu attended the event with a delegation formed by students from CEIP Santa Gertrudis, CEIP Santa Eulària and CEIP Sant Ciriac, who brought to the forum a deep reflection on the challenges of the digital world.

The students explained that phenomena such as cyberbullying, identity theft, loss of privacy or overexposure on social networks are already part of their daily lives, affecting minors unequally. They stressed that girls often face greater vulnerability due to gender issues, while minors with functional diversity may be even more exposed depending on their specific needs.

A “Digital Survival Kit” with nine key measures

To address these issues, the Santa Eulària delegation presented a Digital Survival Kit, a document with nine recommendations aimed at promoting a safe, responsible and balanced use of social networks among children and adolescents.

Among the proposals are the following:

  • Apply parental controls to monitor content.

  • Avoid sharing personal information or private images.

  • Limit network and screen time.

  • Choose applications suitable for each age group.

  • Promote healthy leisure alternatives.

  • Reinforce family accompaniment in every digital decision.

This set of measures seeks to offer real tools to both families and schools, promoting a safer digital coexistence.

Digital rights and mental health at the center of the debate

The session also addressed other growing challenges, such as increasingly early access to the Internet, the risk of digital addictions and the need to protect the digital rights of all minors. In addition, young people insisted on the importance of taking care of mental health, warning about the aesthetic pressure, constant comparisons and unrealistic models present in social networks.
