Meliá Hotels International has been recognized as the most responsible tourism company in Spain, according to the MERCO ESG Responsibility ranking. The company leads the hotel sector and has also managed to improve its position in the overall ranking, climbing 8 places to rank in the Top 20 companies with the best performance in sustainability and social responsibility in the country.
Recognition of corporate responsibility
The MERCO ranking, a benchmark in the evaluation of corporate reputation, analyzes the performance of companies in three key areas: Ethics and good governance; Commitment to workers and society; and Environmental management. For the preparation of the report, MERCO has compiled more than 63,000 surveys with information from 26 sources of analysis, evaluating the impact of companies in terms of sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance. Meliá Hotels International has reinforced its leadership in ESG responsibility, obtaining better scores in the environmental and social areas, in line with its sustainability strategy and its Travel For Good program. This recognition highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to promote a more sustainable and responsible tourism model. Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, president and CEO of the company, highlighted the importance of this recognition and Meliá’s commitment to sustainability: “Sustainability has always been in our company’s DNA, and in recent years we have strengthened our position as one of the most sustainable hotel companies in the world. We are proud to be recognized once again, maintaining our commitments and improving results, but we are aware of the challenges that still lie ahead. We will continue to move forward with the support of our employees, partners, customers and suppliers in all the destinations where we operate,” he said.
