The Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza currently has 2,269 patients on the waiting list for surgery, all of them with delays of more than 100 days, according to data published by the Balearic Health Service (Ib-Salut) as of October 31.
The average delay to undergo surgery in the Balearic Islands has reached 104.6 days, which represents an increase of 8.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, when it was less than 100 days.
The situation in Ibiza is not isolated. In total, 15,712 people are waiting for surgery in the whole archipelago, an increase of 24% year-on-year.
In the last month, the number has grown by 2.6%, with 2,634 patients waiting more than 180 days for an operation, 47.3% more than in October 2024.
Can Misses is the third hospital center with the most patients waiting for surgery in the Balearic Islands, behind only Son Espases (5,345 patients) and Son Llàtzer (3,503). It is followed by Manacor Hospital (1,547), Inca Hospital (1,363), Mateu Orfila in Mahón (1,659) and Formentera Hospital, with 26 patients.
Improvement at the first consultation
In contrast to the increase in the surgical list, the waiting time for the first consultation with a specialist has improved. The average has fallen by 22.8%, to 61.5 days, although 87,988 people are still waiting to be seen, 6% more than a year ago. Of these, 29,767 are more than 60 days late.
Despite the overall reduction, 221 patients have been waiting more than a year for a consultation with a specialist.
