Óscar Portas has announced that he will not continue in politics when the current legislature ends and that he does not plan to run again for the presidency of the Consell de Formentera.
According to an interview granted to Diario de Ibiza, Portas assured: “My political era will end with this legislature. It has been hard . Not because of the work itself, but because of the people you meet in front of you. There is a lot of evil and it is not good for me or for my family environment… I don’t think I will repeat“.
Portas’ announcement comes a year after taking office following the censure motion that removed Llorenç Córdoba and placed the current president at the head of the island institution. In this time, the Consell has had to manage a complex political scenario, several management fronts on the island.
A year of management marked by multiple crises
The flood of small boats and the collapsed system of reception of minors, the sanction for the illegal dump in Es Cap de Barbaria, the removal of stranded boats months after the DANA of 2024 and the contest under suspicion of beach bars, reported exclusively by La Voz de Ibiza, have been some of the cases that have left the island institution in the center of the storm.
In the same interview, Portas also placed the immediate focus on the negotiation of the accounts: “The approval is being delayed because our priority is consensus with the rest of the political forces”, he said when referring to the 2026 budgets.
