The City Council of Sant Antoni has announced the reopening of Passeig de la Mar to traffic after the diesel spill that affected the road this Tuesday. However, the authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution due to the risk of landslides, limiting the maximum speed to 20 km/h.
Incident
The incident took place around 16:00 hours on Monday, when a tank of the generator that supplies the Mercat de Nadal accidentally overturned after being refilled, spilling approximately 700 liters of diesel on the pavement. Immediately, the Local Police cordoned off the area and closed several streets, including Passeig de la Mar, Faro Street, Antoni Riquer and Ample, up to the intersection known as El Huevo. The firefighters, together with the municipal services and a company specialized in waste treatment, began the cleaning tasks by placing absorbent material in the affected areas.
The work
This work lasted throughout the afternoon and evening, with the aim of minimizing the impact of the spill and securing the area for passers-by and drivers. In addition, Ports IB, in coordination with the fire department, installed containment barriers that prevented the fuel from reaching the sea. The Mercat de Nadal remained closed throughout the day as a precautionary measure. This morning, after removing the last remains of absorbent material, circulation was allowed on the road, although with speed restrictions and safety warnings. The City Council has communicated the closure of the incident to 112 and thanks the public for their cooperation while efforts continue to ensure total safety in the affected area.
