This Tuesday is GivingTuesday, a global day that promotes solidarity, and IbizaPreservation wanted to join in with a local and urgent initiative: to raise 5,000 euros to finance the planting of fruit trees on farms in Ibiza and Formentera.
The campaign, active from today and available on the website ibizapreservation.org/givingtuesdayis part of the project ‘Eivissa i Formentera Sembren Futur’, with which the foundation aims to respond to the challenges suffered by the Pitiusan countryside: drought, loss of biodiversity and agricultural abandonment.
“Each tree we plant helps regenerate the landscape, protect the soil and conserve our traditional varieties,” explains Jordi Salewski, coordinator of the Ibiza and Formentera Producen program.

Since its launch at the end of 2024, the project has led to the planting of some 1,350 fruit trees on family farms on both islands, according to the foundation’s own data.
“The demand is growing every year”, emphasizes the IbizaPreservation team, which with this campaign wants to increase the number of benefited farms during 2026. The symbolic price of sponsoring a tree is 35 euros, which allows any person, company or organization to contribute directly.
“By planting trees, we not only take care of the landscape; we also take care of those who work the land and keep alive an essential way of life,” Salewski adds.
Fig, carob and pomegranate trees for the future
The project is committed to Mediterranean fruit species, resistant to climate change and adapted to the Pitiusan environment: fig, carob, pomegranate, citrus and other local varieties that help strengthen food sovereignty and preserve the identity of the rural landscape.
“Planting a tree is an act of hope, and this GivingTuesday we want that hope to multiply with collective commitment,” says Inma Saranova, executive director of IbizaPreservation.
The foundation insists that donating is simple and has a direct impact, especially at a time when the rural environment needs more support than ever. “With a small gesture, we can bring life back to the countryside of the Pitiusas,” concludes Saranova.
