The president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, will present this Wednesday in Brussels the draft European opinion For a sustainable and resilient tourism in the European Union: strategy of balanced and adaptive management, a document that aims to mark the future lines of the Community tourism policy. The speech will take place during the plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), which is meeting this Wednesday and Thursday at the European Parliament.
Prohens’ day will begin at 09.00 hours, when she will participate in a joint meeting of the Islands Intergroup of the CoR and the Searica Intergroup of the European Parliament, focused on seas, rivers, islands and coastal areas. The meeting will be held in room JDE 52 of the Jacques Delors building, where the president will explain the need to provide island territories with specific tools to face the challenges arising from tourism pressure and climate change.
At 14.45 hours, the leader of the Balearic Executive will attend the official photo of the Spanish delegation of the CoR, before the start of the plenary session that will begin at 15.00 hours in the hemicycle of the European Parliament.
The formal presentation of the opinion is scheduled for 18.45 hours, at which time Prohens will defend a proposal that seeks to place the Balearic Islands as a European benchmark in tourism management, promoting a more sustainable, diversified and aligned with the carrying capacity of the territories.
The president will be accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzá, and the Minister of Labor, Public Function and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer. Also participating in the delegation will be Antoni Riera, technical director of the Impulsa Balears Foundation, who acts as expert of the opinion and collaborator in its elaboration.
