The holder of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Ibiza has ordered provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail for two of the immigrants arrested who arrived in a skiff to Formentera last Saturday. The accused are facing two cases: one for a crime against the rights of foreign citizens and another for sexual assault. The latter case involves one of them as the alleged perpetrator of a rape and the other for omission of the duty to assist.
Complaint by a minor after the arrival of the vessel
The other occupants of the boat, made up of 15 immigrants of North African origin, were released after being brought before a judge. The only woman on board, a minor, reported having been raped by the skipper of the boat, while the other passengers allegedly omitted help and even humiliated her during the attack, throwing water in her face. The skiff arrived in the area of Can Marroig on Saturday at 22:45 hours, at which time it was intercepted by the Guardia Civil and the Local Police of Formentera. The young woman was initially attended by the Social Services of Formentera, who later accompanied her to file a complaint at the Civil Guard post.
Investigation of the facts
The skipper was initially arrested for rape and irregular immigration, but after the investigation progressed, the Guardia Civil extended the arrests to the rest of the passengers to clarify their alleged involvement in the facts. All the detainees were transferred to Ibiza, where they appeared in the Court of Instruction number 1 this Wednesday. The day was marathon and until after 4:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, the magistrate’s decision was not known.
