Queen Sofia is already in Ibiza, where on Wednesday she chaired a meeting with representatives of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) to prepare the Great Food Collection 2025.
The meeting took place within the work agenda that the monarch maintains on the island, and in it she reaffirmed her commitment to the fight against food poverty, announcing a donation of 20,000 euros to the campaign.
As reported by the Queen Sofia Foundation, during the meeting the current challenges of the Food Bank of the Balearic Islands were addressed, especially in view of the increased demand for basic aid among the most vulnerable families. The Great Food Drive will be held from November 7 to 9, with the aim of collecting the equivalent of 10 million kilos of food to serve more than one million people in need.
From the Food Bank of the Balearic Islands have thanked the support of the Foundation and have valued the “sustained commitment over time” of Queen Sofia, which, they emphasize, has allowed to reach thousands of people across the country.
Intense agenda in Ibiza
Prior to the meeting, he visited some areas of Ibiza affected by the floods registered a month ago.
The presence of Queen Emeritus did not go unnoticed in the city center. Around 17.00 hours, the monarch moved around the port area and Santa Eulalia Avenue, surrounded by a huge police deployment and accompanied, among others, by the Head of Emergencies of the Government, Pablo Gárriz.
His agenda on the island will continue this Thursday, when he is scheduled to inaugurate the XI National Alzheimer’s Congress, organized by the Spanish Alzheimer’s Confederation (CEAFA), also in Ibiza.
