The Balearic Minister of Health, Manuela García Romero, and the general director of Ib-Salut, Javier Ureña, will travel this Friday, November 21, to Ibiza, where they have called a press conference at noon at the Can Misses Hospital to announce the resignation of Enrique Garcerán as manager of the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera, after several months of tensions and resignations in the management structure.
Garcerán’s departure comes in a context marked by the resignations of the medical director, Sausan Sayed, and the deputy surgical director, Manuel Deiros, whose resignations resulted in a letter signed by 22 service chiefs and coordinators. In the letter, addressed to the Government, the manager was directly pointed out as the cause of the conflict and explicit support was expressed for the two resigned professionals.
This situation is compounded by the recent departure of an oncologist, which leaves the service with three specialists, half of the planned staff. The Pitiusa healthcare system has also faced criticism for the purchase of ambulances, the temporary closure of the operating room and delivery room at the Hospital de Formentera and the increase in waiting lists, issues that have contributed to the climate of tension.
Health sources indicate that today’s appearance will not only make official the departure of Garcerán – who took office in July 2023, after the political change in the Govern – but will also announce the name of the new manager of the Health Area. Everything indicates that he will be a doctor with a long career in the Pitiusas, who on previous occasions had already sounded as a candidate.
