Sant Antoni identifies 86 young people and triggers 51 complaints in its macro anti-botting operation.

The Local Police of Sant Antoni de Portmany has reinforced during the month of November the surveillance in different points of the municipality through a specific device aimed at controlling botellones and concentrations of minors. The action, developed mainly during weekends, aims to prevent alcohol consumption on public roads, protect minors and ensure the rest of the neighbors.

The balance of the operation is significant: the agents have processed 51 complaints for violations of the municipal ordinance of coexistence related to alcohol consumption in public spaces. In addition, 11 complaints have been filed for violating Law 4/2015 on Citizen Security, linked to the possession or consumption of narcotic substances.

86 persons identified and eight apprehension records

During the interventions, 86 people were identified, of whom 59 were minors and 27 adults. The agents also issued eight seizure reports of substances detected in the controlled areas. At the same time, the Local Police carried out inspections in several leisure establishments and bodegas in the municipality in order to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors and other illicit behaviors.

These devices are carried out in coordination with the Juvenile Unit and are part of the police reinforcement promoted by the Department of Public Safety to increase police presence during weekends, holidays and mass events.

Actions in the most troubled areas of the municipality

The operation has focused on the points with the highest influx of young people and the highest incidence of uncivic behavior, including squares, promenades, playgrounds, the bus station, parking lots, leisure areas and coastal areas. The presence of agents in these areas seeks to prevent risk situations, avoid neighborhood nuisance and combat behaviors such as vandalism, noise or conflicts between young people.

Botellón, in decline: from 30 complaints to only 7 in one month

The evolution of November’s device shows a positive trend and greater effectiveness of police control. While in the first weekend of the month there were 30 reports of botellón, the number progressively decreased to only seven reports in the last weekend.

The City Council points out that this reduction reflects the impact of the operation and the need to maintain it during the winter months.

A system that will continue throughout the season

The Local Police will maintain this operation throughout the winter season with the purpose of reinforcing coexistence and safety in public spaces. The City Council stresses that these interventions are essential to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and especially protect minors in situations of risk.
