The City Council of Sant Antoni de Portmany has completed the works of reform and modernization of the sports center of Sa Pedrera, located in the sports complex of Can Coix. The most outstanding action has been the installation of new motorized telescopic bleachers, which allow to increase the capacity of the enclosure to about 2,000 spectators, more than double its previous capacity.
The total investment has amounted to 1,665,514.43 euros, of which 849,000 euros have been contributed by the Consell Insular d’Eivissa. The works have been completed within the planned period of five months and the premiere of the renovated pavilion will be held this Saturday, November 8, with a game of Class Bàsquet Sant Antoni.
The Councilor for Public Works and Public Safety, Neus Mateu, stressed that this reform “is an important step in the modernization of the sports facilities of the municipality”. As she explained, Sa Pedrera “is now adapted to the requirements of national competitions and offers better conditions for athletes, the public and event organizers”.
The Councilor for Sports, Salvador Losa, stressed that the intervention “responds to the request of a club with insular and national projection as the Club Bàsquet Sant Antoni”, while celebrating that the pavilion “has been spectacular after the transformation begun with the roof and parquet, and now completed with the stands”.
For his part, the councilman of Sports, Daniel Sanchez, was satisfied with the result of the works and stressed that “all clubs in the municipality will benefit from larger and better equipped facilities”.
Expanded capacity and technical improvements
The project included the installation of four motorized telescopic bleachers – two on each side of the pavilion – and an additional row of mobile bleachers on the north side. These structures allow the seating capacity to be adapted according to the type of event and can be folded to optimize space during daily training sessions.
In addition, the pavement has been completely renovated, the public address system has been improved, a press room and a space for cameras has been created, and a Television Unit (TU) has been installed for dynamic advertising and synchronized broadcasts with the video scoreboards.
Commitment to accessibility
Improvements also include expanded seating for people with reduced mobility, new outdoor toilets, enlarged restrooms in the locker rooms, a solar thermal energy system, and modernization of the electrical, lighting, ventilation and fire protection systems.
With this action, the City Council of Sant Antoni reinforces its commitment to the modernization of sports infrastructure and its goal of consolidating the municipality as a benchmark for sport in Ibiza.
