The Sant Joan de Labritja Town Council has approved the contracting dossier to launch a new public electric bicycle rental system, a project financed with European funds Next Generation EU through the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destinations 2022, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The initiative is a new step towards sustainable mobility in the municipality and includes the installation of several electric bicycle stations in the main urban areas of Sant Joan.
A network connected to greenways and hiking trails
The project foresees that all stations will be connected to each other by means of green routes, currently in the process of signaling for their homologation. This integration will link the system with the island’s hiking and cycling network, facilitating combined routes between nature trails and urban areas.
Thanks to this connection, users will be able to make outbound routes on foot and return on electric bicycles, thus promoting a model of active mobility that respects the natural environment. Both residents and tourists will be able to move around in a comfortable, safe and sustainable way.
A boost to sustainable mobility
The Councilor for Sports, Transparency and Information and Communication Technologies, Javier Torres Ribas, highlighted the importance of the project for the municipality: “This system not only promotes sustainable mobility, but also connects our urban centers with the green routes that we are approving and the already approved hiking routes. It will allow us to enjoy the natural environment in a comfortable, safe and respectful way. We want both residents and tourists to be able to enjoy the municipality in a comfortable and sustainable way”.
Investment and terms
The total budget for the project amounts to 341,126.80 euros (VAT included) and the estimated execution period is four months, once the contract has been formalized.
With this action, Sant Joan de Labritja advances in its commitment to a sustainable transport model, betting on the connection of the territory, respect for the environment and improving the quality of life of both residents and visitors to the municipality.
