The City Council of Sant Joan has approved the rebate of 50% of the IBI for three years for residents and businesses that install photovoltaic panels that cover at least 40% of their energy demand. This decision is the result of an initiative promoted by the coalition Sa Veu des Poble and Ciudadanos, which seeks to promote the use of renewable energy in the municipality. The coalition’s spokesman, Javier Torres, stressed the importance of this measure to advance the ecological transition. “Sant Joan is taking important steps to become increasingly sustainable, encouraging neighbors to be an active part of this process,” he said. Torres also stressed the benefits for both the environment and the local economy, encouraging more neighbors to participate in this change.
Benefits for recent installations
The new tax ordinance allows residents who have registered their installations in the last six months to apply for this rebate. In this way, the City Council seeks to reward those who have already opted for solar energy, while encouraging others to follow their example. The approval of this bonus comes a year after the proposal was unanimously approved in the municipal plenary. “Although with a little delay, now the neighbors can benefit from this measure that puts Sant Joan at the same level as other municipalities on the island in terms of renewable energy,” said Torres.
