This weekend, Santa Eulària has paid tribute to the more than 50 volunteers of Civil Protection of Ibiza during the celebration of the X Diada de Protección Civil, an event that took place at the Palacio de Congresos. The day served to recognize the work of these volunteers, whose dedication is crucial both in emergencies and in festivities and local events.
Acknowledgments and words of gratitude
The event was attended by local and island authorities, such as Carmen Ferrer, mayor of Santa Eulària, and Vicent Marí, president of the Consell de Ibiza. Also present were the general director of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, and the second deputy mayor, Antònia Picó. During his speech, Ferrer highlighted the commitment and dedication of the volunteers, stating that their work is “fundamental, not only in emergencies, but also in moments that fill our streets with life, such as sports events or patron saint festivals”. He also highlighted the involvement of the volunteers’ families, whose support is essential for them to carry out their work in a selfless and altruistic way.
Exposure and awareness
The day also included an exhibition of vehicles and equipment used by Civil Protection and other emergency entities, such as Firefighters and Ibanat. This space allowed attendees to learn about the tools and resources that these groups use in their daily work, from prevention to rescue tasks. In Ibiza, five Civil Protection groups are part of the 54 existing in the Balearic Islands. These bodies work under the framework of Law 17/2015 of the National Civil Protection System, which establishes citizen collaboration as a key element for emergency management.
A commitment that leaves its mark
The Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior of the Government of the Balearic Islands actively collaborates with local councils to encourage the creation of new groups and provide training and resources to volunteers. During the event, the work of other organizations and individuals who contribute to improving emergency management and reducing its impact on society was also recognized. The X Diada de Protección Civil de Ibiza not only served to honor the work of these volunteers, but also to inspire more people to take part in this solidarity work, which is essential for the welfare of the community.
