The Consell Insular de Formentera has expressed its gratitude to the shipping companies that operate the line between Formentera and Ibiza for having complied with the request to maintain the connections in the early morning (6.00 am) and late at night (11.00 pm). The measure, which comes into force this week, is a step forward in improving mobility and a gesture of commitment to territorial cohesion and the welfare of the citizens of the island.
This action responds to the formal demand made last week by the Consell to the Association of Maritime Activities Companies of the Balearic Islands (APEAM), with the aim of ensuring the continuity of essential services between the ports of La Savina and Ibiza. These time slots, explained from the institution, are essential for many residents for work, education, health or administrative reasons.
“We want to recognize the willingness and responsibility of the shipping companies, who have understood the importance of this service for the daily life of our people,” said the president of the Consell Insular de Formentera, Óscar Portas.
The Consell has stressed that maintaining regular and reliable connections is essential to guarantee equal opportunities for residents and ensure territorial cohesion between Formentera and Ibiza, especially during the months of lower tourist activity, when the frequency of journeys tends to be reduced.
The Councilor for Mobility and Environment, Verónica Castelló, highlighted the importance of the agreement reached: “This decision shows that, when there is a will to cooperate, it is possible to reconcile the needs of citizens with business operations,” she said.
