Ibiza Airport is carrying out this Wednesday an emergency drill, as part of the periodic exercises organized by Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA) to evaluate the capacity of response and coordination in critical situations.
During the day, several users and residents in the vicinity of the airport will be able to observe smoke and a deployment of fire vehicles, ambulances and emergency personnel, which generated some concern among those who were unaware of the operation. The action is being carried out at different airports.
Aena, through its official channels, launched a message of tranquility to clarify the situation: “If you see smoke and emergency equipment at Ibiza Airport, do not be alarmed. A drill is being carried out.”
Safety and coordination exercise
The drill is part of the safety protocols required by international regulations, which oblige airports to carry out this type of practice on a regular basis. The objective is to test the coordination between the different emergency services -airport firefighters, medical personnel, Civil Guard, National Police and AENA operators- as well as the effectiveness of evacuation and rescue procedures in the event of a plane crash or other serious incident.
These actions allow us to detect possible areas for improvement and ensure that, in the event of a real emergency, the response is fast, safe and effective.
