The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) placed this Thursday in 2026 the horizon to complete the processing of the Special Plan of the port of Ibiza, a key document to organize the relationship between the port and the city and that accumulates more than a year of adjustments, prescriptions and allegations. The forecast was exposed during the press conference after the Navigation and Port Council, which also reported the progress of investment projects planned until 2030.
The press conference was attended by the president of the APB, Javier Sanz; the director, Toni Ginard; and the maritime captain of Ibiza and Formentera, Luis Gascón, who answered questions from the media.
The agency assured that the Special Plan already incorporates the prescriptions of the City Council approved in May 2025 and that the document is “very advanced”, although it still has to go through the last administrative procedures before its final approval.
A “very advanced” plan, but still without final approval date
The APB maintained that the inclusion of the municipal prescriptions has made it possible to clear the main conditioning factors of the document, especially in areas such as the Botafoc or the urban port front.

The agency stated that the goal is that the entire process can be completed by 2026, although it acknowledged that the schedule is conditional on administrative times that depend on other administrations.
Investments of more than $140 million through 2030
The Shipping and Port Council also served to present the planned investment package until 2030, which exceeds 140 million euros.
Among the actions underway or planned are the following:

Two OPS points at the Botafoc docks, to allow the electrical connection of the ferries.

Photovoltaic pergolas and lighting renovation to improve energy efficiency.

Improvement of the seawall embankment, renovation of defenses and modernization of the drinking water system.

New nautical facility for small and medium size boats.

Dry dock next to the fishing pier.

Bus Nàutic Eivissa contest for 15 years.

Progress in the planning of the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL).

Implementation of Posidonia Operations V2 and digitization of maritime signals.
Actions completed in 2025
The APB also reviewed the projects completed this year:

The adequacy of Santa Eulària Avenue, with bike lanes, pedestrian areas and new lighting.

Improved accessibility and urban integration of pedestrian routes.

The implementation of escalators in the Botafoc.

The resolution of tenders for moorings in Poniente and Botafoc, which already represent 71% of the port’ s income.
Economic impact: 150 million in social return
The APB also presented the social cash flow data, which put the value generated annually by the ports managed in the Balearic Islands at 150 million euros. Of these:

101 million corresponds to the payment of suppliers (48 million to companies on the islands).

32 million is earmarked for taxes.

10 million to salaries related to port activities.

6 million to operating expenses and social projects.
The agency stressed that these data reflect “the port’s structural contribution to the local economy”.
A strategic planning process that has yet to be completed
With the incorporation of the urban planning requirements and the roadmap set for 2026, the APB considers that the Special Plan enters its final phase. The document, which will have to organize the coexistence between port activity, maritime mobility and public uses, is still pending final approval by the City Council.
