Some 130 users of senior residences in Ibiza will enjoy between December 18 and 20 of the lights and Christmas atmosphere thanks to the solidarity initiative “Un Nadal, un somriure”, promoted by the Taxi Guild of the Island of Ibiza, with the support of the Consell and the City Council of Ibiza. The aim is to bring the Christmas spirit to those who find it more difficult to participate in festive activities.
Residents of Reina Sofia, HRA Cas Serres and Sa Residència will travel the main illuminated avenues of the city thanks to more than 30 cab drivers, including five adapted vehicles. The departures will be accompanied by the Associació de Voluntaris d’Eivissa, which will provide support staff during the routes. The initiative combines accessibility, accompaniment and community action.
Ibiza moves towards inclusion
The insular director of Social Welfare, Marilina Bonet, explained that the proposal seeks to “bring the elderly to enjoy Christmas and the activities organized to live a holiday full of joy and good times”. Bonet thanked the involvement of the cab sector and volunteers, and recalled that the Llar Ibiza will offer a berenar to participants. The Consell wants to strengthen the social participation of the elderly.
The Councilor for the Elderly of the Ibiza City Council, Sara Barbado, stressed the social dimension of the project: “It is a good way for the elderly people of our city to experience the Christmas feeling in a comfortable way and adapted to their needs, and shows that Ibiza is moving towards inclusion”. The consistory highlights the community value of joining administrations, volunteers and cab drivers.
The spokesman for Elite Corsaris Ibiza, Lolo Ruiz, explained that the initiative is inspired by similar projects on the mainland. Elite Corsaris is an association of cab drivers within the sector itself, which collaborates closely with the Taxi Guild in solidarity actions. “We liked the idea of giving joy to the elderly with a gesture like this,” said Ruiz, who confirmed that this year more than 30 cab drivers are participating to guarantee the coverage of the outings. The entity adds wills within the sector for social actions.
A festive tour of the most emblematic points of interest
The routes will begin with a hot chocolate at the Llar Ibiza before starting a journey along the avenue of Santa Eulària des Riu, the port, the Mercat Vell, Bartomeu Rosselló, Isidor Macabich, Ignasi Wallis and Avenida d’Espanya. The route will allow seniors to contemplate the main illuminated areas of the city, before returning to their centers. The itinerary combines urban heritage and Christmas atmosphere.
