The Consell de Govern has approved this Thursday the granting of a direct subsidy of 100,000 euros to the Consell Insular de Ibiza to finance the Escuela Universitaria de Turismo de Ibiza, the only higher education center in tourism available on the island and attached to the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB).
The spokesman of the autonomous Executive, Antoni Costa, explained that this contribution responds to the desire to support a sector considered strategic for the Balearic Islands and the need to facilitate access to university studies in the Pitiusas. The insularity, he recalled, is an added economic burden for students who are forced to move to Mallorca due to the lack of local training offer.
The University School of Tourism allows students to pursue degrees and specialized training without leaving Ibiza, which significantly reduces the costs of accommodation and transportation for families. Therefore, the Government considers that the aid is “fully justified” and responds to the public interest.
The grant, requested by the Consell de Ibiza to the Directorate General of Universities, reinforces the institutional commitment to university education and territorial cohesion between islands. The Govern stresses that supporting training in tourism is a commitment to professionalization and the economic future of the archipelago.
